Test Preparation, Tutoring, & Diagnostic Assessments
Test Preparation
I work with children to help them develop successful skills and strategies for test taking that are appropriate for simple spelling tests to college admission tests. I provide opportunities to apply skills learned so that your child will feel confident, prepared, and familiar with the testing situation s/he faces.  In particular,
I have designed excellent programs to prepare children for the OLSAT, BSRA, and ELA exams.  Understanding that all children are not the same, when helping to prepare children for tests, I tailor the well-researched programs I’ve designed and use multiple resources to help children obtain the strongest possible results.

Diagnostic Assessments

If you have concerns about your child’s literacy learning, it may be appropriate to conduct diagnostic assessments.  Diagnostic assessments provide explanations for a person’s struggle with reading, writing, or spelling. Once these issues are identified, appropriate strategies can then be put into place to address and manage these issues.  Prior to formal assessments being conducted, I meet with you and your child to determine if formal assessments are necessary.  If it is determined that they are, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire to provide me with background information and an overview of your concerns.  Testing is usually completed within two hours, broken up as necessary, depending on the age of the individual and the test(s) being administered.  Following testing, you will be provided with a report and an explanation of the meaning of the results along with teaching strategies to address the issues identified.  Please note that diagnostic testing rates include my attendance at IEP meetings, if requested.

Advocacy

I work with parents and also teachers and other professionals, as requested. I can attend IEP meetings and support classroom instructors.

Tutoring
Differentiated Learning Styles

Whether your child is an auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learner, I find strategies that result in success. Techniques are shared and practiced, so students can achieve success on their own. I also address multiple intelligences and build a foundation on your child’s strengths.

Reading/Writing/English

All subject areas require literacy skills.  When a child is struggling in reading and/or writing, it can adversely affect all school studies.  I have considerable experience working with early literacy and  subject correlation and can help bring a student’s reading and writing skills up to academic level and beyond.

Kindergarten Readiness
Each year, as parents get ready to send their young children to kindergarten, they wonder if their child is really ready to start school. It can be a difficult task for many parents to prepare their child for school because they do not know where to begin.  I can work with children to help prepare them socially and emotionally as well as cognitively and linguistically.

Home Schooling
As a parent, you may have made a conscious decision to teach your children at home or you may have a homebound child due to illness or disability.  I provide home-schooled children with supplemental or specialized subject area instruction and assessment.

Summertime
Long summer vacations break the rhythm of instruction; can lead to forgetting; and require a significant amount of review when students return to school in the fall. Summer tutoring provides children the opportunity to master important skills and to further explore areas of interest in a fun, creative way, with individualized attention.
